Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Lava Update: 8/30/11
DI inflation and activity continued in the form of two lava lakes. The summit lava lake level rose slightly. In the middle east rift zone, lava continued circulating in a smaller lake perched on the floor of Pu`u `O`o crater while another lava source opened in the crater last night. Seismicity was low. Gas emissions remained elevated from summit and rift zone vents.

DI inflation started last night and activity continued in the form of two lava lakes. The summit lava lake remained at stable levels. In the middle east rift zone, lava levels rose overnight after dropping yesterday within a perched and circulating lava lake within Pu`u `O`o crater. Seismicity was low. Gas emissions remained elevated from summit and rift zone vents.

Activity continued in the form of two lava lakes. The summit lava lake remained fairly stable with a few fluctuations in level. In the middle east rift zone, a perched lava lake began to form within Pu`u `O`o crater. Seismicity, other than the periodic tremor bursts associated with the fill-and-drain cycles, was low. Gas emissions remained elevated from summit and rift zone vents.
