Thi tour was great My 2 daughters and I did this we met a lot of nice people and saw a lot of awesome things our tour guide was Phonex ,he got us to a lot of places ,we didnt see lava flowing but the trip was well worth the money

3rd of 5 tours we took with DHHT while in Hawaii. As with the rest, it was very informative and well organized. Jonathon, our guide, was great and was very knowledgable of the Hilo area of the Big Island. Only dissapointment was with the lack of volcanic activity but this was beyond the tours control not very active since the earthquake and tsunami in Japan shifted the goelogical plates in the Pacific. The rest of the tour definitely made up for this shortcoming, especially the entertainment at the meal stop from Jonathon.

This is the ONLy way to see and experince the Big Island Volcanos. The early morning pick up is worth the amazing day you have at the Volcano National Park.There are no words to describe the GREAT time we had on our tour with John. John was AWESOME The information and knowledge he had was amazing The small groups made us feel like family. I cant imagne not going on this tour. We plan on going back to the Big Island just because of the information and our experience we had on the tour. From the time we was picked up at the airport till the time we was dropped off was amazing the black sand beaches to the rainforest to the lava tubes to the night volcano to everything between. If you go to Hawaii and dont do this tour, your trip will not be complete THANKS JOHN

We had a fantastic time on htis tour, and our guide John was also fantastic. We were hoping to see a live liava flow, but there was none tuntil the next day, but it was still great, even got to see the Milky Way that night.

As the other reviews mention, this tour makes for a very long day but it is well worth it. I booked this tour for myself and my parents, and within a couple of hours of booking online, the customer service department was on the phone with me asking if it was OK to put us on separate flights. Much appreciated and unexpected since most companies would just book you as they saw fit. While the morning pickup was early, the ease of getting over to the other island made up for it, with a drop off right at the departure area and a pickup by our guide on the other side in Hilo. Phoenix brought us to places off the beaten path, and at each stop made it a point to tell us about the history, the flora and the fauna at that location. His knowledge of the language, history, geology and everything else about Hawaii was AMAZING We have raved about him since the tour ended and have been telling everyone back home that you couldnt ask for a better tour guide when visiting the Big Island He made it a point to make sure my parents had a great day

This was to be our first time on an island other than Oahu. Prior to our trip, I researched and found a few tour companies that sounded trustworthy. I read several reviews with very positive feedback regarding Phoenix at Discover Hawaii Tours. We booked the package, and hoped for the best. Sure enough, we had the great fortune of being guided by Phoenix. I really cant say enough about him. Genuinely friendly, extremely knowledgeable, thorough, inspiring, thoughtful,......all of these words, and many more, can all be used to describe what a wonderful person he is. Weve been on eco tours in the Yucatan and Caribbean. They were great, but, included a lot of unnecessary stress because the guides really didnt put their hearts into their work. Phoenix gave us an exciting, yet, stressfree day that we will not soon forget. He took care of all of our needs, no questions asked. I highly recommend this tour for all ages. We toured the volcano in a comfortable, clean, airconditioned minibus. It was so exciting because the day before we got there, the volcanic activity increased dramatically. We didnt get to see flowing lava in person, as it could not be viewed from a safe distance, which is totally understandable. Keep in mind, this is not a lava tour. It is a volcano tour rich in information and history. We did see the glow of the lava after sunset, which was amazing. Wow! My wife and I had such a great time with cousin Joe! He was the best tour guide we have ever had and was an extremely safe driver. Joe took us to an amazing hike at volcano park and even stopped by the black sand beaches in Kalapana, it was fantastic! I would highly recommend this tour to all!
We cannot guarantee lava sighting. However, this year many of our tours experienced a lava sighting, so it is a possibility. We cannot reimburse you if you don't see lava, but we can tell you that this volcano tour is filled with tons of exciting stops and stories!
Volcanic fumes (VOG) are hazardous to your health.
