Airport Information

 

Check-In

Located in the Main Terminal.

 

Check-In Time

We recommend arriving 90 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights, and 120 minutes prior to departure for international flights.

 

Curbside Baggage Hours

Curbside might be available. Check with your airlines.

 

Checked Baggage

Checked baggage will be accepted up until 45 minutes prior to flight departure for domestic flights and 60 minutes prior for international flights.

 

Carry-On

Check-in without bags closes 30 minutes prior to departure for domestic flights and 60 minutes prior for international flights.

 

Arrival

Baggage will be available for pick on one of the carousels. 

 

TSA Pre Check

TSA Pre✓™ expedited security screening is available in KOA.

Directions

Travel north or south on Queen Kaahumanu Highway/HI-19 to get to Kona International Airport.  The airport is approximately seven miles from Kailua-Kona town and approximately 25 miles from resorts located on the Kohala Coast.

 

From Queen Kaahumanu, turn toward the ocean on Keahole Airport Road.  Drive approximately .3 of a mile to Keahole Street.  Turn right and follow the road into the airport.

Shuttle

SpeediShuttle provides affordable on demand door to door service from the KOA airport to your hotel. Departing within 20 minutes of check-in with Shuttle Attendant at pickup zone. Shuttle stops are conveniently located on the ground level.

Parking

 

Daily Rate

Daily parking rates for KOA are $15 maxium per 24-hour period.

 

Reservations

None of the KOA Parking Facilities accept parking reservations.

 

Long-Term

Monthly parking based on calendar month. Purchase may be made from the 22nd of each month (no proration); $160.

 

Cell Phone Waiting Lot

The Kona International Airport cell phone lot is located near the International Arrivals Building (IAB) off the Keahole airport loop road just minutes away from the airport terminal. This area is available for use during all hours of flight activity.  Vehicles are not to be left unattended.  One (1) hour time limit.  Follow the Cell Phone Parking directional signs along the roadway to get to the cell phone lot.

 

Disability

Accessible parking spaces are available for persons holding valid placards.  Accessible spaces are available in the main parking lot across the street from the terminal.

 

Electric Vehicle

Parking stalls reserved for use by electric vehicles are available in the main public parking lot.

 

The main public parking lot also includes an electric vehicle charging station which can provide service to two vehicles.  The current charge for use of the electric vehicle charging station is $7.00 for 24 hours.

 

An electric vehicle on which an electric vehicle license plate is affixed is exempt from payment of parking fees.

Travel Services

Kona International Airport offers a Visitor Information Program to assist travelers.  The program is staffed from 7:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

 

When booths are not staffed, information is available by picking up a courtesy phone at a VIP desk or by calling (808) 329-3423.

 

ATMs are available at the aiport.

 

WIFI

Unfortunately the airport does not currently offer Wifi service. We are looking into a Wifi solution for the airport in the near future.

 

 

Extras

 

HNL Medical Clinic

Kona International Airport is committed to ensuring your safety and security at the airport.  Airport Rescue and Fire Fighters are available 24 hours per day for first responder medical treatment and will refer to County Fire and Rescue ambulance services as required.

AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS (AED)
Automated External Defibrillators (AED) are installed at KOA in the event of a medical emergency.  Defibrillators are located about 90 seconds apart in walking distance through the airport’s public areas.

 

The defibrillators are mounted in security boxes that alert Airport Crash/Fire/Rescue staff when the equipment is removed. Airport security is also alerted to respond to the scene and to call 911 for additional medical help.

 

Airport volunteers have been trained how to respond to a cardiac emergency, perform CPR, and how to use the AEDs.
